    • Galaxy Groups and Clusters III, La Serena, May 15-19

    Dear all,

I hope this email finds you well.

It is a pleasure to announce the meeting “Galaxy Groups and Clusters III: Laboratories to study galaxy evolution” which will be held in the Universidad de La Serena, La Serena, Chile, during May 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 2023.

The main motivation of this meeting is to discuss recent results related to the evolution of galaxies in different environments, such as groups and clusters of galaxies, from an observational and theoretical point of view. In this third edition, participants are encouraged to highlight the potential of multiwavelength surveys, 3D spectroscopy, and advanced simulations in the study of galaxy evolution in these environments.

As in the previous versions, there is no registration fee and you can register and find more information in: http://astro.userena.cl/GGC2023/

We hope that you can register and participate in the third version of “Galaxy Groups and Clusters: Laboratories to study galaxy evolution”

    All the best,

Sergio Torres Flores, on behalf of the local organizing committee.

    • Registration open for the 43rd International School for Young Astronomers in Tonantzintla, México.

The 43rd International School for Young Astronomers, ISYA2023Mx, will take place in Tonantzintla, Mexico, from the 17th of July to the 4th of August 2023. The International School for Young Astronomers (ISYA) is a long-tradition project of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), nowadays also co-sponsored by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (NASL) through the Office for Young Astronomers (OYA). The 43rd school is co-organized by the OYA, and the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica (INAOE).

We invite applications to attend this School from students in their early MSc/PhD studies and some senior undergraduates in the Americas, especially from Latin American and Caribbean countries.

The 43rd ISYA aims to broaden the attending young students’ perspective on Astronomy from their exposure to an intensive three-week program of lectures with up-to-date astrophysics, both on theory and observations, led by an international team of experts. Students will learn about different astronomical fields, from exoplanets to cosmology, and acquire technical expertise to analyze current astronomical data and models, mainly from accessible and large databases. An exciting possibility for areas of the world that do not have access to telescopes is to carry out quality research with the enormous variety of astrophysical databases that are freely available to the community. Therefore, this is one of the main objectives of this school: to show students what kind of projects and science can be done with these databases.

The official language of the School will be English.

Although the ISYA is not a research conference, we encourage students to submit posters to present a summary of their research projects.

Apart from the academic school activities, students will also have the opportunity to experience the archaeological, artistic and scientific environments of the central valleys of Mexico through a series of cultural visits, events and travels.

We will accept around 30 young astronomers, and they will be granted scholarships to cover travel from the home cities and the entire board during the School. All selected students are expected to commit 100% of their time to the three-week long program and participate in all scheduled activities.

Registration is now open at: https://www.inaoep.mx/~isya2023
