Argentine participation in the WSO/UV project
- Argentina was present, through a National Commission of Space Activities (CONAE) representative, at the meeting of interested parties that took place in Toulouse, France, in June, 2000.
- CONAE has expressed its decision to put at the project's disposal the 13 m receiving antenna at Falda del Carmen
, Córdoba, Teófilo Tabanera Space Center to bring down information from the satellite.
- Argentina, through a CONAE representative has taken part in a Conference entitled "World Space Observatory and Ultraviolet Astronomy" which was organized in Beijing (China) in May, 2000. In this meeting, Jorge Sahade presented a paper on "Close Binary Stars and the WSO/UV".
- CONAE has appointed Jorge Sahade as Argentine representative in the WSO/UV on the Satellite´s Implementation Committee (WIC) that was established in the Beijing meeting.
- An Argentine National Committee for the WSO/UV was established.
- Argentina has participated in the meeting of the WIC that took place at the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences in May 2002.
- INVAP submitted a Project of a Star Tracker to the consideration of the Group.
- Argentina has contributed and will contribute to the list of important subjects of research with the WSO/UV.
- WSO/UV logo was designed by Evangelina Tenaglia, an argentinian designer actually working for the Faculty of Astronomical and Geophysic Sciencesof La Plata University.
- The UN/ESA Workshop "The World Space Observatory and the Virtual Observatories in the Era of 10m Telescopes" was held in Córdoba, Argentina. The meeting was hosted and organized by CONAE with the support of La Plata University and the Córdoba University.
